This is an outline of the fundamental principles and goals which the organisation and staff of St Marys Legal t/as Thomas Adams Solicitors aspire to and seek to achieve always:
1. That serving other people is our first and most important role and this means we will put the interests of our customers first.
2. That in all areas of practice or endeavour we will pursue and endeavour to operate at a standard of excellence;
a. to measure our standards by being accountable to others for our performance;
b. by being honest and open about mistakes;
c. by being willing to make any necessary change to improve;
d. by accepting that both as an organisation and as individuals we can improve; and
e. by rewarding excellence in an appropriate manner.
3. That we will operate as a team, with unity of purpose, support for one another both professionally and personally, openness and honesty with one another, and loyalty both to the organisation and to other team members.
4. That we will deal with all our customers equally, without favour or partiality.
5. That we will be honest and open in all our dealings with all people.
6. That we will where possible return a tangible benefit to the community including pro bono legal work in select areas, and financial support of various community groups.
7. That we will provide our services on the basis that we are paid a fair and proper fee for those services, and that we will apply all possible efficiency to all tasks we are engaged to undertake so as to minimise cost to customers.
“Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbours to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser – in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.” The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, edited by Roy P. Basler, Vol II, “Notes for a Law Lecture” (July 1, 1850?), p. 81.
